About the artist....
My name is Nicole and I am a nerdy, quirky and (sometimes) klutzy mixed media artist.
I grew up in the Inner Western suburbs of Sydney, but now live in the beautiful Blue Mountains. Surrounded by inspiration! An area of artists, poets, breathtaking scenery, barefoot bogans and creatures that can kill you.
I have a floofy haired, 18 year old son who makes me laugh most days. Sometimes at him, sometimes with him. Mostly at, let’s be honest. But he is a supportive kid and I love to get his perspective on colours and textures when I'm painting, and he is not afraid to be honest! ("Is it supposed to look like that?" as his head tilts to the side in confusion)
I have a bearded, tattooed, bike riding husband who supports every brushstroke and gives me supportive pats on the bottom when I’m having a sooky, unmotivated moment.
From a young age I loved to play and create. I loved to doodle, and paint, and mold. During high school I did side courses at both KVB Design Institute and Billy Blue School of Design in Sydney. I have also done courses through the Art Gallery of NSW, including an illustration class with Reg Mombassa of Mambo and a drawing class with Count Andreas von Faber-Castell of the famous pencil empire.
With time, life happened and my creative side had to take a backseat to my nappy-changing, bill-paying, veggie-baking responsible side. It wasn’t until recently I started to really focus on my art and my creative processes. I got to focus on me!
So here I am. Shamelessly spruiking my artworks.
I draw inspiration from many places. I must firstly say my family, of course. Partly because they give me the best reasons to get up and motivated every day, but mostly because they are reading this.
I’m inspired by so many artists, but special mention must be given to; Jackson Pollock, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Dorothea Tanning, Alphonse Mucha and Maud Lewis. I look at the works of these artists with awe.
Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. More importantly, thank you for taking the time to look at my art!
